Dragon Ball Legends builds every fight around a Ki bar that runs from 0 to 100, and spending it well decides more matches than raw character power. On offense, normal Arts can randomly upgrade into a Heavy Attack, then a Super Heavy Attack, for bonus damage. Arts Boosting raises those proc chances. One catch worth knowing before you grind: Heavy and Super Heavy Attacks do not occur in PvP, so the damage you see clearing Story stages will not match what you deal in a Rating Match. That gap explains why a team that steamrolls the campaign can still struggle against real players.
Rising Rush: seven Dragon Balls and a card guess that ends rounds
Rising Rush is the one attack every fighter shares, and against a full-health target most characters get deleted by it in a single connect. You charge it by playing Arts Cards marked with small Dragon Balls. Once you collect all seven, a cinematic team attack unlocks. When it lands, your character chains every card currently in hand into one burst, which is why landing it mid-combo, when the opponent cannot react, is the standard finishing setup.
There is a mind game baked in. The defender picks a card to guess your color, and a correct read reduces the damage, while a wrong guess lets the full hit through. Smart players bait a premature Rising Rush or force the opponent to switch their lowest-health fighter in to soak it.
The mechanic also reshapes itself per mode. In Hyperdimensional Co-Op, Rising Rush switches from card selection to a timing bar you tap to fill, and if you and your buddy fire at the same instant, the boss cannot dodge and takes bonus damage. In the Tournament of Power, a Rising Rush triggers automatically for your side after four turns, scaled by stats and element advantage rather than a card guess.
The five-color element wheel plus Light and Dark
Element advantage swings damage in both directions, so reading the color wheel beats memorizing a tier list when you build a team. Every fighter carries one of five base colors, locked in a pentagon where each color beats one neighbor and loses to another.

The summon pool tops 400 fighters, yet only the top rarities carry almost the entire competitive meta. Characters are sorted by rarity, by class (Melee, Ranged, Defense, Support), and by color, and you pull them with Chrono Crystals on time-limited banners.
- Hero: the lowest tier, mostly filler that veterans skip past.
